CONNECT, ENGAGE AND ACHIEVE!
Carson-Newman Student Experiences is devoted to providing a successful experience, whether you are a first-time freshman, transfer, non-traditional or returning student. Our goal is to help you be successful throughout the various stages of your academic journey by engaging spiritually, personally, socially, and academically with C-N, graduation, and future achievement.
First- and Second-year Experiences
First- and Second-Year Experiences exists to help new students make a successful transition to campus, both academically and personally. Our aim is to foster a sense of belonging, promote engagement in the life of the university, and help to clarify purpose, meaning and direction. We believe providing new students with an experience that focuses on connections with other students and many institutional resources throughout the first and second year allows the success rate to greatly improve through the rest of their college career.
Orientation
New Student Orientation offers a unique experience for freshmen, transfers, and non-traditional students at the beginning of their first semester to ease the transition into college. During Orientation, students participate in various activities to help them explore campus, prepare them to start their first day of college, and develop relationships that will last throughout their college experience.
Eagle Guides
Along with the required Liberal Arts 101 course that is required of all incoming students — first-year students and transfers — comes a C-N Eagle Guide. Eagle Guides begin connecting with their students the very first week of classes in their LA-101 class. Though they do not see them in a regularly scheduled and structured setting after the first semester, Eagle Guides continue to help their group of students to help new students in taking intentional steps to find their rhythm and community on campus, through attending events, connecting with other students, or simply exploring the resources and community both on and around campus.
Parent Resources
Parents, your role will change as your student begins college, but they still need you. Students rely on you to help them grow, develop, and become independent, as well as to provide a stable presence in their ever-changing world. Learning to navigate this time can be difficult, satisfying, and frightening. At Carson-Newman, our goal is to provide resources and tools to help you guide your students through their academic journey.
Please sign up now for our Parent Orientation happening this fall! Parents, you are invited to our annual Presidential Luncheon as our special guests!
Student Organizations
Ranging from theatre to business leadership to worship, C-N offers over 40 student organizations to choose from. Network with industry professionals, minister to the local community, or just have fun and relax with an activity going on. And if you don’t find a club that’s right up your alley, no problem—just start one! We highly encourage and support students taking the initiative to create the best experience for all students. No matter the focus of the organization, each group provides a space for students to form relationships, make memories, and gain experiences that they will enjoy and draw from for the rest of their lives!
Recreation Services
Recreational Services has a wide variety of offerings for all students. Located in the Maddox Student Activities Center, there is a weight room and cardio room, both filled with weights, equipment, pool tables, and dart boards. There is also a 3-court gymnasium, where students can rent out things to play basketball, football, and even pickleball.
Intramurals
Our Intramural staff hosts over 30 different intramural activities throughout the year. These events range from bubble-ball and flag football to trivia and bingo. Everyone is welcome to join the competition for the year’s covetous Intramural shirt AND bragging rights!
